After a fantastic NFL 2024 season, it was Philadelphia Eagles who came out on top as they denied Kansas City Chiefs their third consecutive Super Bowl title. The Eagles won their second ever Vince Lombardi Trophy in front of over 65,000 fans at the Caesars Superdrome in New Orleans, defeating the Chiefs 40-22. The game was a repeat of the 2022 Super Bowl where the Eagles were narrowly beaten 38-35 by the Chiefs, however, the Pennsylvania-based side got their revenge in style with Jalen Hurts being crowned the MVP.

Super Bowl LIX 

February saw the finale of an exciting 2024 season, with Super Bowl LIX renowned not only for the game. In an impressive half-time show, a concert that has become a trademark of the Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar brought the house down as the American rapper performed his controversial hit ‘Not Like Us’. 

The artist for the 2025 half-time show hasn’t yet been announced, however, Taylor Swift is being tipped to be the next to join a stellar list of stars that have performed at one of the most iconic sporting events in the world. 

Teams to Look Out for in 2025 

But on the pitch how will it pan out this year? As expected the Eagles are favourites to retain their title in 2025, however, it will not be easy for them. Narrow victories over the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and defeat to the Cleveland Browns in pre-season suggest they may not be as strong as first thought. With the season yet to get underway they will be keen to improve on their form and prepare promptly for the regular campaign. They begin their 2025 season hosting the Dallas Cowboys, as they strive for a first consecutive Super Bowl win. 

The Chiefs, on the other hand, have had a difficult pre-season. Although they are fourth favourites for Super Bowl LX, they have been defeated in all three of their pre-season fixtures. They are on the hunt for their fifth title, however, with poor performances weighing them down, will they struggle this season? They face the Los Angeles Chargers on the opening day, a side eager to cause an upset this year. 

Other teams to look out for this year include the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills. The pair face each other in the first game of the season and it is expected to be a cracker. The Bills have only lost one game in pre-season, whilst the Ravens have been ruthless winning all three games convincingly. 

The Ravens have won two Super Bowls in their history with the most recent being in 2012, whilst the Bills have never won it. Although the Bills have appeared in the final four consecutive times between 1990 and 1993, they lost all four games making it an agonising time period for fans of the Texan side. Could we see their name finally carved into the Super Bowl trophy in February?

Super Bowl LIX takes place this Sunday and reigning champions Kansas City Chiefs have the chance to do something no other NFL side has achieved before.

They’ve claimed the Vince Lombardi trophy in each of the last two years and they’re looking to become the first team to ever win the Super Bowl three times in a row. Philadelphia Eagles are the opponents looking to prevent the threepeat.

And they have extra motivation as they look to avenge their Super Bowl defeat of two years ago. In a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, Kansas City Chiefs are targeting their fourth win in the last six years.

Seven other teams have won the trophy in successive years but the Chiefs are the first in history to have been handed the chance to make it three in a row. This year’s showpiece event takes place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans and ahead of the action, we’ve taken a closer look at the two sides involved.

Kansas City Chiefs

Experience counts for a lot in high-profile games and after winning the last two Super Bowls, it’s no wonder the Chiefs are the bookies’ favourites to do the threepeat. They’ve enjoyed a phenomenal season so far, winning 15 games and just losing twice.

Andy Reid’s side finished top of the AFC division before narrowly overcoming the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills in the playoffs. And they’ll be looking to deliver one last big performance as they aim to make history this weekend.

It’ll be their seventh ever Super Bowl appearance and their fifth in the last six years. They’ve won it four times, losing twice, with their most recent defeat coming in 2021 at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If they want to secure their third win on the trot, they’ll need their star names to step up. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t had a breathtaking season by his own high standards but he’s still more than played his part. The 29-year-old had seven game-winning drives this season, the joint second most of all time.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s famous partner Travis Kelce recorded his side’s most receiving yards with 823. DeAndre Hopkins came in mid-season and immediately made a difference, recording 437 receiving yards in just five starts.

Super Bowl matches have been fairly tight in recent years – just three points have separated the finalists in each of the last three contests. The Chiefs were on the winning side of the coin last time out, beating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22, and they’ll be desperate to repeat the feat this time around.

Philadelphia Eagles

Standing in the Chiefs’ way will be the Philadelphia Eagles, who are targeting their first success since beating the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LII in 2018.

The Eagles are still reeling from their defeat two years ago and will have more motivation than ever as they look to avenge that 38-35 defeat to Sunday’s opponents. Like the Chiefs, they’ve enjoyed a strong season and will also have momentum on their side.

Nick Sirianni’s team won 14 times this season, losing just three games as they finished top of the NFC East. They then beat the Green Bay Packers, LA Rams and Washington Commanders in the playoffs.

They’re set for their fifth Super Bowl appearance and will be hoping to avoid a fourth defeat – that triumph in 2018 remains their only success. And like their opponents, victory hinges on the performances of their key players.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been a key cog in the Philadelphia machine since joining in 2020 and he had yet another strong season for the Eagles. Elsewhere, their most vital player was arguably Saquon Barkley.

The running back starred in his first season with the Eagles after being snapped up just under 12 months ago. In an impressive debut campaign, the 27-year-old became just the ninth player in league history to record 2,000 rushing yards in a season and he’ll be key if they’re going to stand any chance of winning.

Who is performing the Super Bowl half-time show?

While the Super Bowl is the main event, many people around the world will secretly be tuning in for the iconic half-time show. Last year, Usher was the headline act, bringing out the likes of Alicia Keys, will.i.am and Ludacris to entertain the crowd.

This year, Kendrick Lamar will perform at half-time, fresh off the back of winning five awards at the Grammys on Sunday. The rapper was announced back in September and has revealed that SZA will be among his special guests.

Kendrick is no stranger to the Super Bowl stage. He performed in the half-time show in 2022, alongside Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J Blige.

February saw the finale of the 2024 NFL season as the Chiefs won the Superbowl in a thrilling climax. The CThe NFL returns to London this month for its annual series that allows UK-based American football fans the chance to see some of the best sides from the States in the flesh. We’re set for three thrilling encounters, with two games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before a showpiece finale at Wembley.

Ahead of the action, here’s everything you need to know about the season so far and the hat-trick of upcoming NFL London matches.

The story so far

The 2024 NFL season is just four games old and some sides are already pushing a gap between themselves and their rivals in pursuit of the ultimate prize. The Kansas City Chiefs and Travis Kelce claimed their second successive Super Bowl title earlier this year and they’ll be targeting a third on the bounce this time around.

It would be the fourth Super Bowl in five years for the Chiefs who have enjoyed a whirlwind rise in recent years – their only previous title came way back in 1969. They’ve won the AFC West in each of the last eight years and they’ve started the new season where they left off, winning each of their first four matches.

The victims of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl success were the San Francisco 49ers, who will be looking to avenge that defeat this season. They’ve not lifted the famous trophy for 30 years and they’ve endured a mixed start to the campaign, winning two and losing two of their first four games.

The Minnesota Vikings, who compete in this year’s NFL London curtain-raiser, have won all four of their matches so far, including two thrashings of the New York Giants and the Houston Texans. Elsewhere, fellow London visitors the Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t had the same luck. They’ve lost every game so far and they’ll be hoping a trip to London might turn their form around.

Minnesota Vikings v New York Jets
Sunday 6th October – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

This year’s trio of NFL London games gets underway on Sunday and who better to kick off proceedings than the Minnesota Vikings, who have stormed out of the blocks this season. They’re one of 12 teams to have never won a Super Bowl and they’ll be desperate to end that streak this year. They’ve previously played in it four times during the 1970s, losing each time.

The Vikings return to London for the fourth time having last been two years ago, where they edged the New Orleans Saints 28-25 in a thrilling encounter. This time, they’ll need to overcome the New York Jets, who have won two and lost two matches so far.

The Jets have played in London just once before, beating the Miami Dolphins at Wembley nine years ago. They’ll want to continue their unbeaten streak across the pond but following the Vikings’ tremendous start to the season, they could be in for a long afternoon.

Chicago Bears v Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday 13th October – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

While the Jaguars will be wary of their less than ideal start to the season, they’ll be spurred on by the strong following of UK supporters that they’ve gathered over the years. They’ve played on British soil in every series since 2013 and as London regulars, they’ve developed a loyal fanbase.

They’ll be hoping that will make the difference as they look to change their luck in their two London games, starting against the Chicago Bears at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite their four defeats, three of those have been reasonably close, with only their 47-10 drubbing at the hands of the Buffalo Bills a real cause for concern.

The Bears will smell blood and with two wins under their belt already, including a triumph over the Los Angeles Rams at the weekend, they’ll be confident of securing another win. They’ve had a mixed start to the season, with two defeats in NFC North, and with the Minnesota Vikings running away at the top of the standings, they’ll need to improve if they want to claim their first Super Bowl title since 1985.

Jacksonville Jaguars v New England Patriots
Sunday 20th October – Wembley Stadium

The Jaguars then head to Wembley for the final game of the NFL London series and they’ll take confidence from the fact that they won both matches in the capital last year against the Atlanta Falcons and the Buffalo Bills.

They face six-time Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots, who are on a three-game losing streak in AFC East. They kicked off the 2024 season with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals but failed to continue their momentum, coming unstuck in clashes with the Seattle Seahawks and the 49ers, as well as enduring a 24-3 humiliation against the Jets.

The Patriots remain unbeaten in London, winning both of their previous games at Wembley, although their last outing in the UK was back in 2012. While the Jaguars may feel that having ‘second home’ advantage could help them to a much-needed win, history isn’t on their side. They’ve met the Patriots 14 times previously, winning just twice against their opponents.

The Chiefs’ victory made them the first team to win consecutive Superbowl titles since the New England Patriots in 2005. After an exciting 2024, the 2025 campaign is not too far away with preseason just on the horizon. We take a look at some of NFL London’s best moments!

NFL London is a series of American football games during the regular NFL season taking place in London as part of a NFL International Series. Teams from the US travel to England to play in front of thousands at stadiums across London. Since NFL London’s inception in 2007, it has seen some of the best American football teams of all time with games usually played at Wembley Stadium and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Top 5 NFL London Moments

1)    NFL London’s First Game: New York Giants vs Miami Dolphins. On the 28th October 2007, the Giants and the Dolphins walked out in front of 81,000 people at Wembley Stadium for the first ever game of the NFL International Series announcing NFL as a worldwide sport. It was the Giants that triumphed in the first ever game in the capital overcoming the Dolphins 13-10. Not only was it the first ever win in NFL London, but it also paved the way for the Giants to ultimately win the Superbowl later that season. It was a pivotal game that set the groundwork for the NFL to go global.

2)    The Jaguars mascot bungee jump. Over the years, the thrills, as far as the Jaguars are concerned, have not just been on the pitch. The daredevil mascot, Jaxson de Ville, often bungee-jumps from the roof of the stadium towards the pitch below before the match. Jaxson loves to risk it all to ‘wow’ the crowds with thousands witnessing his plunge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium. 3)    The Lions’ unthinkable comeback. Back in 2014, the Detroit Lions faced The Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium. After starting the season with 5 wins and 2 defeats, the Lions went into this one confident. With that said, things were looking bleak for the Detroit side at the end of the 2nd quarter, finding themselves 21-0 down. However, two Matthew Stafford touchdowns and a Matt Prater field goal turned the game on its head as the Lions won an incredible game 22-21. A historic game leading to the Lions making the playoffs at the end of the season.

4)    Wil Lutz ‘Double Doink’. In 2022, London was treated to a thrilling spectacle as the Minnesota Vikings took on the New Orleans Saints. The Vikings won the battle 28-25 in what was an incredible climax. 23 points were scored in the final quarter between both sides as the teams jostled for the lead. Saints lost the game in dramatic fashion as Wil Lutz kicked for home in the dying embers of the match from 61 yards. He was denied only by a ‘double-doink’, as the ball bounced off both the upright and the crossbar resulting in defeat for the Saints.

5)    Landon Collins’ pick-six. The final greatest moment of our NFL London list came back in 2016 with Landon Collins’ incredible ‘pick-six’ for the New York Giants against the Los Angeles Rams. Rather fittingly, Collins’ touchdown came at Twickenham, the home of England Rugby, as the Giants man returned an interception from 44 yards, weaving in and out of the Rams’ tackles. The play was not dissimilar to a rugby play, running from the defensive line to gain 6 points for his team, with many describing it as the best ‘pick-six’ they’d ever seen.

This year fans can expect to watch their favourite teams in the capital including 9-time Superbowl winners, the Chicago Bears as well as the New England Patriots in October 2024. The Minnesota Vikings will also be in action once again as will the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Widely considered one of the biggest sporting events of the year, this weekend is a big one for NFL fans. That’s right Superbowl LVIII is upon us. In what feels like forever since the first action of the campaign back in September, the big finale is finally here in what promises to be a thrilling contest. The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Franciso 49ers at the Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas on Sunday. In what is expected to be a sell-out crowd with a capacity of 65,000 and millions more watching from home, viewers will be treated to some spectacular American Football, pyrotechnics and an epic halftime show featuring popstar Usher. You won’t want to miss this.

The Kansas City Chiefs go into the final as pre-season favourites and reigning champions. Having beaten the Philadelphia Eagles last year in the finale, they will be keen to make it two on the bounce, the first team since the New England Patriots in 2005, while making it four total Superbowl wins. 11 wins and only 6 defeats throughout the campaign suggest that they mean business and watching Usher perform will not be their main concern.

Nor will it be the 49ers main concern either as they boast a superior record coming into the match having won 12 and only lost 5. With commanding wins over the Cowboys and the Packers, the 49ers will not be a walkover for the Chiefs. They will look to tie the record of the most Superbowl victories (6) if they are to be victorious in the final joining the Steelers and the Patriots on that incredible feat.

So who should you look out for in the final? Well Patrick Mahomes once again has been a valuable asset to his side with passing yards of 4183, the sixth highest this year. Elsewhere in attack Isiah Pacheco has rushing yards of 935 and Travis Kelce has receiving yards of 984. Meanwhile in defence Justin Reid boasts 95 tackles and 3 sacks.

In terms of individual performance the Chiefs are less impressive when compared to the 49ers with Brock Purdy outshining Mahomes with passing yards of 4280 while Christian McAffrey tops the rushing yards table for the season with 1459. In defending they prevail as well, with Fred Warner’s 132 tackles while Charvarius Ward is ranked joint 4th in interceptions made with 5.

The Chiefs were favourites at the start of the season, but are they still favourites now? Well with the clear differences in individual performance, could they struggle against a very well-drilled San Francisco side? It’s safe to say it could be anyone’s game but with the 49ers’ impressive form, you have to say that they might be the team to pinch it and equal the record Superbowl wins.

This weekend marks the halfway stage of the NFL main season and there are already some early contenders who are looking to challenge for the famous Super Bowl title.

In the American Football Conference (AFC) the Jaguars, the Ravens, the Chiefs and the Dolphins all lead the way in their respective divisions while in the National Football Conference (NFC) the Eagles, the 49ers, the Lions and Saints top their divisions. With some unsurprising names at the top of each division, who will go all the way and be crowned with one of the most prestigious sporting titles in the world.

As expected, both the Panthers and the Cardinals have struggled to get their season up and running. With only three wins between them and rock bottom of their respective divisions, it has been a pretty bleak showing for both teams. With that said, their victories have come over teams playing well compared with their corresponding leagues.

The Cardinals managed to see off the Cowboys 28-16 with the Dallas side sitting 2nd in NFC East as well as victory over the Falcons who sit third in NFC South. Meanwhile, the Panthers narrowly beat the Texans 15-13 as the Houston based side sat 2nd in AFC South. With both teams pulling off shock results, can we see them have an improved second half the season and climb up their respective divisions?

At the other end of the divisions, there have been some expected candidates leading the early charge. Philadelphia Eagles find themselves with only one defeat in nine as they top the NFC East. That lone defeat came from the Jets as they present a fairly subpar season so far by the New York side’s standards. One of the favourites going into the season, the Eagles have not disappointed as they look to go one better than runner’s up last time out.

Similarly, the Kansas City Chiefs have also emerged as early leaders, unsurprisingly being the favourites to clinch the title for the second season in a row. With Patrick Mahomes on form this season once again, he will be keen to secure the MVP title for the second season in a row. However, it won’t be easy for the Chiefs as they will be up against it with the other sides all gunning to knock them off their perch.

Somewhat of a surprise contender this season, the Jacksonville Jaguars find themselves sitting pretty at the top of AFC South having only lost 3 games.

The Jaguars have been a team to be feared this season, only coming up short to the Texans and the Chiefs before Sunday. Having never won a Super Bowl, they will be very keen to make history this season and build on their strong start to the Regular Season. With that said, they suffered a heavy defeat to the 49ers as they were beaten 34-3 in a thrashing in front of a home crowd on Sunday. They’ll be looking to bounce back quickly if they are to have any chance of fighting for the title.

The Jags also managed two victories in London this season, both at Wembley and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in another memorable edition of NFL London.
