Women's Sport

Women’s sport has continued to go from strength to strength in recent years with so many iconic and memorable moments taking place both in the UK and overseas.

Three women in a row have now won BBC Sports Personality of the Year, highlighting these wonderful moments.

Emma Raducanu won the award in 2021 after her US Open victory, becoming the first qualifier, male or female, to win a Grand Slam in the Open era.

Following on from this, women’s football has taken over the award in the last two years, with Beth Mead and Mary Earps both picking up the prestigious prize.

The Lionesses managed their first major trophy in 2022 as they beat Germany on home soil to win the 2022 European Championships.

They almost managed another wonderful feat in 2023 but unfortunately fell at the final hurdle, losing to Spain in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
