The ICC World Test Championship is the competition that decides the top Test side in the world.

The current cycle runs from 2025 to 2027 and features the top nine Test teams, each playing six series, three at home and three away. The top two teams in the table meet in the Final.

Three Finals have been played so far, all in England. New Zealand beat India by eight wickets in the first Final in 2021 at The Rose Bowl. Australia beat India in 2023 at the Kia Oval. South Africa then beat Australia by five wickets at Lord’s in 2025 to claim their first title.

The ECB has secured hosting rights for the Final through to 2031, so England’s grounds are set to stay at the centre of the competition for some time yet.
