The biggest live music festivals in London 2023

Dig out your wellies and warm up your vocal cords because music festival season is well and truly upon us! Thousands of live music fans are packing their tents as they prepare to brave the elements at Glastonbury, Reading, the Isle of Wight and beyond.

But for those of you that would prefer to stay closer to home to get your music fix (or if you simply fancy a city break in the capital), you’re in luck!

The London festival scene is bigger and better than ever, with plenty of events taking place throughout the summer. And you can enjoy the tunes in style thanks to our range of hospitality experiences.

The stage is set for an extraordinary few months of music magic – take a look at what’s coming up.

BST Hyde Park

When: 24th June – 9th July

Where: Hyde Park, London

Headline acts: Guns N’Roses, Bruce Springsteen, Take That, Billy Joel, Lana Del Rey, P!nk

One of London’s most iconic music festivals is back for another year, with British Summer Time returning to Hyde Park. Countless superstars have rocked the stage since it began in 2013, including Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Adele, Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift.

The organisers have outdone themselves once again this year. Guns N’ Roses, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel are among the headline acts at this year’s festival, which takes place over a series of weekend dates.

And there’s plenty of choice for the younger crowd too, with Take That, P!nk, Lana Del Rey and Blackpink also scheduled to perform.

If any of these artists are on your bucket list, why not avoid the crowds and watch them from the comfort of our hospitality areas?

Kew Gardens

When: 11th to 16th July

Where: Kew Gardens, Richmond

Headline acts: Bastille, The Human League, Jools Holland, The Vamps

Festival locations don’t get much prettier than this. Instead of the mud, tents and litter of Glastonbury, enjoy an evening of music in the stunning surroundings of Kew Gardens, one of London’s most picturesque settings.

Kew the Music is a picnic festival that is ideal for all the family and the botanical gardens are the perfect place to wind down on a warm summer evening.

Bastille, The Vamps and The Human League are among the acts set to perform. Plus, Jools Holland will add a touch of class to the occasion with his Rhythm & Blues orchestra.

Greenwich Summer Sounds

When: 4th to 8th July

Where: Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich

Headline acts: Tom Jones, Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Kaiser Chiefs, Black Eyed Peas

We’re staying south of the river for our next festival and once again, you’ve got the chance to enjoy some live music in another stunning venue. Tom Jones is set to continue on the summer festival circuit at the Old Royal Naval College for Greenwich Summer Sounds.

Enjoy the panoramic views from the Royal Observatory before wandering down the hill to enjoy sets from Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Kaiser Chiefs and Black Eyed Peas.

If you feel like taking in the tunes with a glass of fizz in luxury facilities, take a look at our hospitality offerings.

Henley Music Festival

When: 5th to 9th July

Where: Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire

Headline acts: Westlife, Rag’n’Bone Man, Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Boney M

Okay, this one isn’t strictly in London – but hear us out. It’s on the River Thames, it’s easy to get to from the capital and it promises to be bigger and better than ever.

It’s just a few days after the Henley Royal Regatta and while there’s no rowing here, the main stage does float on the river. Fingers crossed there’s a lifeguard on duty to keep an eye on the likes of Westlife, Rag’n’Bone Man and Nile Rodgers and CHIC, who are among the festival’s headliners.

Plus, Boney M will be performing with original lead singer Liz Mitchell. And if you fancy a break from the music, you can laugh your socks off as Jack Dee and Jo Brand crack jokes on the comedy stage.

Other concerts in London

It’s not just festivals where you can get your live music fix this year! Some of the world’s biggest acts are doing standalone gigs at London’s biggest venues – and we’ve got the best seats in the house available.

The O2 Arena will host Maroon 5 and Kiss in July before Sugababes and Shania Twain take to the stage in September. Plus, Madonna brings three of her tour dates to the dome in October.

With the football season over, Wembley will become a concert venue for the summer, starting with the Capital Summertime Ball and four nights of Harry Styles’ tour in June.

Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe and Blur take centre stage in July before The Weeknd takes over north London in August.

It’s not just Wembley that’s swapping football for live music. Arctic Monkeys bring their long-awaited UK tour to the Emirates in June. And just a few miles down the road, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Wizkid will be performing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in August.

What to expect at the BRIT Awards 2023 with Mastercard

After the recent Golden Globes, the awards season is well and truly underway, but the coolest of them all has to be the BRITs.

Famed for its laid-back approach, with booze-laden tables and A-listers mingling between ad breaks, the BRIT Awards is far from prim and proper, and that’s why we love it.

The awards themselves celebrate the best in music and have featured some of the most memorable moments in British pop culture history, from Freddie Mercury’s last public appearance, the height of the Oasis and Blur feud, plus that Union Jack Dress worn by Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.

Unlike other awards shows, the event is broadcast live, adding to the slightly unpolished and unpredictable nature of the show, which makes it all the more exciting for the lucky fans in attendance.

Since 2010, the awards have been held at the O2 in Greenwich, a venue that has established itself as a worldwide attraction for some of the most reputable live acts.

For instance, in 2007 rock star Prince began a series of 21 sold-out nights at the arena, in one of the great UK rock residencies in recent memory.

Beyond the world of music, the O2 is one of the elite sporting venues in the country. Between 2009 -2020 it played host to the ATP Tennis World Tour finals, and, in 2023, it will host WWE Money In The Bank – the first time a WWE event has taken place in London for over 20 years and the first Money In The Bank ever outside of the US.

Last year The BRIT Awards were hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan, co-host of The Big Narstie Show on Channel 4, and judge on ITV’s The Masked Singer.

The 2022 show was the second year without gendered categories and generated the most nominations for female artists since 2010. Adele took home three BRIT Awards on the night for British Album of the Year, British Artist of the Year and Best British Single respectively. Other notable winners were Wolf Alice for British Group, Billie Eilish for International Artist of the Year and Silk Sonic for International Group of the Year.

However, as fun as it is to hear the speeches and watch the awards being presented, the most memorable moments of the night are always the musical performances.

Last year The BRITs were opened by none other than Ed Sheeran who was joined by Bring Me The Horizon to perform their song Bad Habits. Adele, Little Simz and Sam Fender all performed but the show was closed by Dave, who had already won Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act on the night.

The BRITs 2023 – what you need to know

This year, The BRITs will be held on 11 February 2023 and will once again be hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan. The show will be available to watch live on ITV and ITVX.

At the time of writing, only three acts have been announced to perform; Sam Smith ft Kim Petras, Flo and Wet Leg, who, along with Harry Styles have the joint most nominations this year (four).

However, with a host of high-profile nominees, including the Arctic Monkeys, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Beyonce, you can expect many more big stars to take the stage and possibly perform on the night.

Such is the popularity of the event, tickets are sold out via the O2 Arena website. Thankfully though, hospitality packages are still available with Engage Hospitality so you too can be a part of British pop culture history.

Elton John to go out with a bang

As the end of his Farewell Yellow Brick Tour comes to an end, Elton John has announced that his last ever UK show will be at next year’s Glastonbury Festival, where he will close out the show on the Pyramid Stage.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2023 and celebrate the greatest festival in the world,” he said to his 4.3 million followers on Instagram.

He is the first act to be revealed for the 2023 iteration of the festival. However, many have speculated that the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Harry Styles may also be topping the bill – the next wave of artists is typically revealed in March.

As with every Glastonbury festival, tickets are in high demand. When tickets went on general sale on November 06, they sold out within an hour, as organisers tweeted, “Thank you to everyone who bought one and we’re sorry to those of you who missed out, on a morning when demand far exceeded supply.”

Now that the Rocket Man is onboard for his final UK show, the scramble for re-sale tickets in spring next year will be hotter than ever.

The emotional finale at Glastonbury on Sunday, June 25, 2023, will mark a five-decade-long career that has seen the pop superstar headline festivals and sell-out arenas worldwide.

He first garnered international acclaim following his breakout performance at the Troubadour in West Hollywood in 1970, his first on American soil. He stunned the crowd with hits from his debut album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which had just been released in the United States.

In June 1985, when he was already a household name, Elton John performed with the likes of Queen and Wham! in the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in London. The event, known as the ‘Global Jukebox’, helped raise more than $125 million in famine relief for Africa.

Other memorable performances include his Royal Festival Hall Show in 1972, where he introduced his fifth LP Honky Château, which features arguably his most famous song Rocket Man. His fourth album, Madman Across The Water, had been released just three months earlier and was still in the US top 20.

Elton John is prolific, to date he has released a total of 31 albums and sold 300 million records worldwide, making him the fourth best-selling artist of all-time behind The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.

Knighted for his services to music in 1998 by Queen Elizabeth II, Elton John has numerous accolades and awards to his name, including 5 Grammys, 5 Brit Awards and two Oscars.

In 2018, Elton John started his Farewell Yellow Brick Tour in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This was intended to kick off a tour consisting of 300 concerts worldwide, however, the European leg of his tour, initially scheduled for winter 2020 had to be cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

The remaining tour dates were later postponed till 2021, along with the rest of the second European leg and the third North American leg.

Fans were left frustrated again in September 2021, when it was announced that John had sustained a hip injury, causing the European tour to be delayed again, this time till 2023.

Finally, in January 2022, John resumed his farewell tour at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana to a sell-out crowd.

The legendary performer marked the end of his North American tour with one final performance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in November 2022. Nearly 50 years on from his unforgettable 1975 show at the same stadium, John was joined by collaborators Dua Lipa, Brandi Carlile and Kiki Dee.

His Farewell From Dodger Stadium show was a global event, reminiscent of Elvis Presley’s televised show in Hawaii in 1973, which attracted a billion viewers worldwide.

John’s Dodger’s performance was available to live stream on Disney plus and is still available to watch.

As his unforgettable career draws to a close there are only going to be so many more opportunities to say, “I saw Elton John live.”

“It’s going to be incredibly emotional.” Emily Eavis, Glastonbury co-organiser said: “It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year.”
