After a tense contest, Chris Eubank Jr narrowly defeated Connor Benn as their saga-filled rivalry took yet another twist last month. Eubank Jr won on points as he defeated Benn in front of a packed out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, a fight that was just as entertaining because of the antics outside of the ring. The fight was a replica of the fierce rivalry of their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, in the 90s.
With the original fight postponed due to Benn testing positive for the banned substance, clomifene, and Chris Eubank Sr making a surprise appearance, fans got to witness all of the drama.
After all the drama, is there really ever a spell of calm on the boxing circuit? Certainly not at the moment, as yet another big rivalry has been entered into the summer prospectus. The highly anticipated rematch of Daniel Dubois against Oleksandr Usyk is set for the 19th July 2025 and in this blog we will take you through everything you need to know!
The fight on the 19th July will mark the second meeting between Dubois and Usky. The first meeting between the pair was on 26th August 2023 at Stadium Wrocław in Poland as Usky came out on top with a 9th round knockout blow. The fight, however, wasn’t without its controversy after a 5th round blow from Dubois knocked Usky to the floor but referee, Luis Pabon, ruled it as a low blow.
Many believed the punch by Dubois should have been ruled legal and should have been the knockout blow for Usyk. Ultimately, the fight led to Usyk agreeing a blockbuster matchup against Tyson Fury on the 18th May 2024 which he won. It meant that Usyk was the first man to be crowned undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois will take place on the 19th July 2025 at Wembley Stadium, London with a ferocious contest set to take place for the undisputed heavyweight title. Can Dubois get revenge or will Usyk assert his dominance as the heavyweight world champion?
Dubois has said he has wanted revenge since their first bout back in 2023 and now he has his chance to get it. Usyk and Dubois will now have mandatory fights against Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora after the fight has taken place, with the IBF granting an exception for the Usyk vs. Dubois fight to go ahead due to enabling the crowning of an undisputed heavyweight champion.
With two of the greatest boxers in history ready to take centre stage at Wembley Stadium, there will be fireworks, with Dubois promising a ‘bloodbath’. Dubois has won 22 fights in his professional career with 21 of those coming from a knockout. An impressive record for the Briton is bettered by his Ukrainian opponent though with Usyk unbeaten in 23 professional fights.
Should Dubois overcome Usky’s exceptional record, there will be a new undisputed heavyweight champion. He will also be achieving a feat that the likes of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Derek Chisora were unable to do. Can Dubois make history?
