2024 Genesis Scottish Open - Day 1

The Genesis Scottish Open returns in July 2024 and is among the select five tournaments included in the DP World Tour’s Rolex Series, signifying its status as one of the premier events on the European Tour,Ā which attracts the top players in the world. The event attracts a world class field each year as golfers from across the globe get their prep in prior to The Open, including players such as Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler.

While it has been hosted on different golf courses in the past, in recent years, the tournament has been conducted on a links course. This choice of venue is particularly attractive to players seeking to gain valuable experience just before the Open, which occurs in the subsequent week.

Starting from 1987, the Genesis Scottish Open, along with the John Deere Classic, has served as the last opportunity for players to secure a spot in The Open. Since 2014, it has been an integral part of the Open Qualifying Series.

The top 3 players (4 in 2016) who are not already qualified for The Open receive an entry to the prestigious tournament. Before 2014, there was typically an exemption category allowing the leading player or players, who weren’t previously qualified, to participate in The Open.

In 2017, the Scottish Open was elevated to Rolex Series status, coinciding with the inception of the series, leading to an increase in the prize fund to $7 million. Starting in 2022, the tournament received co-sanctioning from the PGA Tour and the title sponsorship of Genesis.
